JAF AI POLICY

POLICY ON THE USE OF GENERATIVE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (GenAI)

1. Purpose and Scope

This policy ensures the ethical, transparent, and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools at every stage of writing, submission, and peer review in Al Fikrah: Jurnal Pemikiran dan Pendidikan Islam. This policy applies to all AI-based systems, including generative language models (such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude), image generators, and data analysis assistants.

2. Core Principles

  • Authorship Prohibition: AI tools cannot be listed as an author or co-author. Authorship status is strictly reserved for humans who meet international authorship criteria.
  • Author Responsibility: Authors hold full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the entire manuscript content, including any sections assisted by AI.
  • Transparency: Any use of AI in the preparation of the manuscript must be disclosed honestly and openly.
  • Academic Integrity: The use of AI must not result in data fabrication, plagiarism, fake references, or image manipulation.

3. Disclosure Obligations

Authors are required to describe the AI assistance utilized, including: the name and version of the tool, the date of use, and the specific sections of the manuscript that were assisted (e.g., grammar checking, translation, or data summarizing). This disclosure must be included in the Acknowledgements section and stated in the cover letter during submission.

4. Use by Reviewers and Editors

  • Reviewers and Editors are strictly prohibited from uploading manuscripts or any parts of a manuscript into public AI tools for evaluation purposes, in order to maintain the confidentiality of the author's work.
  • The use of AI by the editorial team is only permitted for similarity (plagiarism) checking or language improvement through secure internal systems.

5. Misconduct and Sanctions

Failure to disclose the use of AI or evidence of AI-fabricated content will be considered a severe ethical violation. Actions taken may include manuscript rejection, article retraction if already published, and notification to the author's institution.

6. Sample Disclosure Statements

Authors should use one of the following formats based on the type of AI assistance received:

  • Language Editing: "Parts of the text in the Introduction section were refined using ChatGPT (OpenAI, GPT-4, May 2025) to improve grammar and sentence clarity. The authors have reviewed and approved the final text."
  • Translation: "The English abstract was translated from Indonesian using Google Translate and was subsequently verified manually by the authors."
  • Image Generation: "Figure 2 was generated with the assistance of Midjourney v6 based on the conceptual prompts developed by the authors. The source file is available upon request."
